2021.12.05 15:40 evilweevil2004 Societies of Renaitria

Blood Ink Society: A society of writers, both fiction and nonfiction. It is disproportionately influential for its size, being approximately 60,000 members strong. This small size is in part due to the rather stringent requirement of having to have a fully published and printed work of at least 10,000 words. This requirement has garnered much criticism, as the necessity that it be physically printed was outdated even at the founding of the society.
It gained its name from the act that started the revolution, writing on walls with blood. Many divide the art of the Society into two categories, calligraphy, and the art of the word. Calligraphy being the physical way in which the script is written, and the art of the word being the way words are arranged to make art.
The Blood Ink Society established its position of power by doing record keeping, and running what little administration was set up after the revolution. While the mundane record keeping has mostly been taken over by AI, many members of the Society still maintain positions within government through respect and prestige. The political disposition of the Society tends to be in favor of a slightly more powerful government, as well as in keeping a balanced government budget. They are able to influence the second of these much more as they hold many of the economic positions.
The internal structure of the Society is entirely based on prestige and respect. There are official positions that wield real power, said positions however are almost always given to the most respected members of the Society. Should someone for some reason lose their respect, they are 'asked' and pressured into stepping down.
As far as other goals and motivations, the Society has many historians in it, and takes a vested interest in recovering any information about pre-Corporate Renaitria. This drive, as well as a drive for gathering information in general, shapes almost all of its foreign policy, wielding whatever power necessary to retake artifacts they believe belong to Renaitria.
The Order of the Rose: This Society is made up of painters and other physical artists. By far the largest of the Societies at 320,000 members, they equivalently hold a vast amount of power. This is in part because as long as you can prove that you are a citizen of Renaitria, and make a moderately good piece of art, you can join.
They gained their name from a famous painting of a rainbow rose that was made at the opening of the provisional government. The art of the Society is divided into the many different forms of paper and canvas art, including that of virtual art.
This Society was established as a loose coalition of different art guilds after the revolution. While they initially didn't hold much political power, they did have a significant presence in the streets of cities, hosting many festivals and public events. As they grew, they gained many local positions, eventually working their way up into the highest levels of government. The political views of the Society are extremely varied, but in general, they advocate for a decentralized government, headed by local chapters of the Societies.
The internal structure of the Society is extremely decentralized, with much of the power being held by the leaders of the founding guilds. Each guild has its own way of choosing its leadership. If decisions need to be made for the guild as a whole, the most powerful members come together in a form of council to discuss them. The Society sometimes subsumes other Societies that they allow to join, so long as they focus primarily on physical arts. Not all members of this Society are members of the guilds. Usually these people are just in the Society for the connections and hold very little power within it.
Their other goals and motivations are quite plutocratic, much to the dismay of the other Societies and the public in general. Members of the Society often hire themselves out to make various pieces, and the Society encourages this. It manages to avoid most allegations of being a corporation by not officially taking a cut of the money earned, although higher ranking members sometimes take 'donations', a practice officially denounced by the Society.
The Unbroken Chorus: This is the primary Society for auditory artists of all kinds. Boasting a modest membership of 130,000 artists, this Society holds a moderate amount of political power, but takes its place as one of the most powerful Societies through its social influence. Membership in this Society requires an interview with a board of mid ranking members. In this interview, you will be judged on the quality of your voice, you will also be asked a variety of questions relating to your aspersions and goals as an artist. Bonus points if you already make money doing audio art.
This Society's name comes from the band that founded it. The Society refuses to classify it's artists into separate categories, saying that they are all just parts of the Chorus. However, in reality, there are many different disciplines that compose the Society.
This Society was founded much later than most, being created by the first super popular band to come from Renaitria. It grew in size and power extraordinarily quickly, and provided it's members with great opportunities. Soon every band that rose to prominence did so through the Chorus. Higher ranking members also got some positions in government. As far as political views, they are one of the most unified groups, advocating for a slightly more powerful central government run entirely by the Societies. They hold lower positions in government than some of the other Societies, but by allying with other groups and playing the political game, they have some power to push through their agenda.
The internal structure of the Society is the most centralized of the powerful ones, governed almost entirely by the founding band of the same name and their inner circle. Middle tier positions function similarly to other Societies however, with the most prestigious and famous members rising to such positions. The Society functions similarly to an agency, doing networking for its members.
As far as other goals and motivations, this Society is mostly concerned with growing the popularity of its members. In foreign policy it uses its influence to find opportunities for its members abroad. This has led to many Renaitrian singers to move away and become famous in foreign countries.
The Masquerade: A Society for all those who pretend to be someone they are not. A small Society of only around 10,000, they hold a small amount of political power, but what sets them apart as one of the great Societies is their secrecy and alleged shadowy power. In order to be inducted into their ranks, a current member must recommend you, making it very difficult to gain entrance to it's ranks. If you become a famous enough actor, the Society will come to you. The only other chance you have is if your friend happens to be a member and they vouch for you.
The Society's name comes from its propensity for secrecy as well as the method by which it maintains the anonymity of its members, that method being masks. The Masquerade is much more focused than the other large Societies in terms of art styles, primarily only having actors in it's ranks. However there is another group that makes up a significant chunk of its membership, con artists and identity thieves. While it denies supporting crime, it doesn't do anything to stop criminals from joining it as it values anonymity above all else.
This Society has humble origins as a small cabal of actors who were all members of the first provisional government. They slowly inducted other members of government, growing to encompass a majority of it. However when the first provisional government fell apart and a new one took its place, it lost most of its political influence. Afterwards, much of the blame for the failure of the first government was put on The Masquerade and it became nearly impossible for members to take any position in government. They then focused more on gaining other forms of influence and increasing the anonymity of its members, leading to the Society we know today.
In terms of political views, they seem to hold no particular persuasion, with each member holding their own opinions. What little political power they officially hold is directed entirely to increasing the power of the Society and its individual members.
The internal structure of the Society is very loose, being held together by strings of contacts. When decisions have to be made, the most well connected members come together, usually virtually, to discuss possible options. Most members aren't fully aware of the extent of their Society, using it to access online chat rooms in which they anonymously discuss tips and information about their acting careers. More well connected members use the Society to further their careers and other goals.
As far as other goals and motivations, this Society is almost completely focused on advancing the goals of its individual members and has no unifying interest as far as we know.

2021.12.05 15:40 Tiramissu_dt Is extended fasting actually good for you? I always thought that only people who suffer from EDs do that and that it is actually harmful, as it also wastes away your muscle mass. Have I been wrong all this time?

I've been recently wondering about this. I've only heard about Intermediate Fasting, before and that kinda made sense to me. I've done that every now and then and considered it to be a relatively safe way of fasting and I've personally had amazing results with that. As of recently, I wanted to go back to fasting and have been searching for a good support community on Reddit, and that's how I actually found fasting.
At first, I thought that it's a group for IF, but I was really mistaken! The people there seem to regularly do even 18+ days fasts, which seems absolutely bonkers to me and I feel like it's on the border of having an ED. Of course one sees results with that, because they are not eating, thus losing weight like crazy. However, this made me think if it is really healthy and sustainable lifestyle? It feels to me like the people doing such long fasts will of course lose extreme amounts of weight, but with that also muscle mass and once they go back to their normal routine, albeit maybe still very healthy, they will just more or less gain all the weight back. I tried to express my shock in the group, but of course, I was shunned and laughed at as everyone there seems to follow more or less same routine. As someone who struggled a lot with EDs and anorexia, I'm genuinely baffled by this as this is what I used to do in the past and I was told that this is a sign of disorderly eating. Obviously, as someone who has recovered, I always feel like I'll always have a bit distorted viewpoint when it comes to food and so, that's why I'm here - what does NoStupidQuestions think about this, honestly? Is it actually a healthy lifestyle when done sensibly or something that can be actually pretty counter-effective as to losing weight/ this lifestyle being sustainable?
